Furniture Refinishing
As a part of our complete furniture restoration service, furniture refinishing is a large part of it. Furniture refinishing means adding a protective layer on top of a timber. No matter the age of the item of furniture, finishes can become worn with age or accidental damage, or sometimes you may want to change the finish on an item of furniture to better suit your needs e.g. harder wearing.
We can advise you on what furniture refinishing options there are and where they would be best placed.
We offer a free collection and delivery and advice to any items of furniture in need of refinishing
The furniture refinishing options we do include
- Glazes
- French polishing
- Waxes
- Oils
- Painting
Here is a breakdown of uses of furniture finishes, we can advise on your individual item of furniture as this is just a guide:
GlazesĀ –
Great for modern furniture surfaces which are used daily, very hard wearing along with being water, alcohol and heat resistant
French polishing –
This is a good option for traditional furniture refinishing, used on furniture which was made from the late 18th century to the present day. This furniture finish can really transform a tired looking item of furniture. Perfect for those much loved items made of walnut, mahogany, rosewood and oak. It’s not the hardest of wearing furniture finishes but if treated well it will last for many years to come.
Waxes-
This is great for reviving a tired item of furniture. Waxes have a large number of uses in furniture repair. To name a few
- We will use waxes on 18th- 20th century furniture
- Great on antique Windsor chairs
- Good results on pine
Due to the nature of waxes they are not hard wearing and are not best suited for table tops that are used regularly.
Oils-
Oils are good for furniture refinishing, as it is hard wearing and water resistant to a point. They are good for antique furniture tops that are used heavily with daily use.
Oils are also used on retro furniture. Furniture refinishing with oil is suitable for most timber types
Painting-
Painted furniture is increasingly more popular than ever. A painted furniture finish can transform a dated item and bring it back to use. Can be very hard wearing depending on which paint you use.
